At their prior firm, Jurika & Voyles, they oversaw over $7 billion in assets for sophisticated individual and institutional clients. Over the years, they have built a reputation for independent and forward-looking thinking, differentiated results and a high level of personal service.

Karl O. Mills, CFA

Karl O. Mills, CFA

Karl Mills is the managing principal and leads the firm’s investing activities along with Mikel Keifer.

Over the past three decades, he has established a reputation for his insightful and often contrarian perspective on the financial markets, combining top-down conceptual and strategic thinking with practical investment judgment. He is an active commentator on investing and the financial markets. He has been profiled and quoted in financial press such as Barons, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, and has frequently appeared on CNBC and Bloomberg and other news media. Karl is an avid supporter of the Arts and has been on the board of the San Francisco Opera Association since 1999 and served as president between 2002 and 2006. Karl is also a trustee emeritus of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, where he served on the board for ten years.

Before founding Jurika, Mills and Keifer in 2005, Karl was vice chairman of Jurika & Voyles, Inc., an Oakland, California based investment management firm. During his 14-year career there, he was involved in all aspects of the company’s investing and other activities and played a major role in building the firm.

Karl holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Bates College and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1992.

Mikel S. Keifer, CFA

Mikel S. Keifer, CFA

Mikel Keifer is the Chief Operating Officer of the firm and is responsible for investment research and analysis.

Mikel brings over two decades of experience in investment research and portfolio management to Jurika, Mills and Keifer. He has worked alongside Karl Mills since the founding of the firm, and at their prior firm, Jurika & Voyles. He began his career as a financial analyst with Nvest, LP, a Boston based financial services holding company which acquired Jurika & Voyles in 1997.

His passion for rigorous analytical research and critical thinking provides the foundation for the firm’s investment research, asset allocation and portfolio management activities.

Mikel holds a B.S. degree summa cum laude in Business Administration from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts and earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1999.

Along with his keen interest in investing, Mikel’s sons Max, Jack and Shawn plus his wife Merri keep him busy and inspired.

Bonnie Burset

Administrative Associate

Bonnie Burset joined Jurika Mills & Keifer in 2006 and is responsible for client service and administration as well managing administration activities for the firm.

Prior to joining Jurika, Mills & Keifer, she was the Program Assistant for the City Fields Foundation, a private-public partnership with the City of San Francisco dedicated to improving the quality of life through the renovation of public athletic fields. Prior to that, she supported the CEO of Opt4 Derivatives, a software company that produced an online derivatives trading application.

Bonnie holds an M.A. from UC Berkeley in Asian Studies, specializing in Korea and China, and is fluent in Spanish. She also holds a B.A. in East Asian Studies from The George Washington University.

Will Richardson

Associate

Will Richardson has been with Jurika, Mills and Keifer since 2021. He is responsible for a range of activities across the firm, most notably client service, investment research, and operations.

Prior to joining JMK, Will earned B.A.'s in both Economics & International Relations from U.C. Davis, specializing in World Trade & Development. He also lived in London, completing a term abroad at the London School of Economics. Will played on the U.C. Davis Men's Lacrosse Club and continues to participate in the sport and his community as the Defensive Coordinator for the Miramonte High School Men's Lacrosse Team.
